Getting started
On first launch, Linescript walks you through four steps: the language of your calls, the folder for your transcripts, the microphone and your Mac's audio. Then start a transcription from the icon in the menu bar, or press ⌘R in its panel.
Common questions
My voice isn't transcribed
Your voice is transcribed only while headphones are connected. Without them, the others' voices come out of your speakers and would be transcribed twice. Also check that microphone access is on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
The other participants aren't transcribed
Linescript needs permission to listen to your Mac's audio. Turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, then try again.
A language download doesn't finish
macOS downloads each language once, then it works offline. The download needs an internet connection and free space. If it's still going after a few minutes, restart your Mac and try again.
How do I change the language?
From the menu bar panel or the transcript window, before you start. To add languages, open Settings › General › Languages.
Where are my transcripts?
In the folder you chose during setup, one Markdown file per call, named with its date and time. You can also read, rename and delete them in the Transcripts window: open the menu bar panel and choose Transcripts (⌘Y).
How do I connect an AI assistant?
Open Settings › Assistants and turn on "Let AI assistants read your transcripts". Under "Connect an assistant":
- Claude Code: copy the command and run it in Terminal.
- Cursor: copy the configuration and paste it into
~/.cursor/mcp.json. - Kiro: copy the configuration and paste it into
~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json.
If Settings says the port is used by another app, choose Use Another Port, then copy the configuration again.
Do I need to tell the other participants?
Yes. Depending on where you live, transcribing a conversation can require consent. Linescript reminds you when you start and offers Copy Notice, a short message to paste in the call chat.
Does Linescript record audio?
No. Audio is turned into text on your Mac and then discarded. Only the text is kept. See the Privacy Policy.
